Prevent Hair Loss and Thinning

Posted on

We cannot stop baldness from happening, or prevent it completely. There are ways to prolong the life of hair on our head and take precautionary measures.

There are some factors that cannot be change. Like the fact that your DNA cannot be reprogrammed to prevent balding, if it is in your family. But other conditions that lead to hair loss like untreated diseases, improper diet and nutrition deficiency can be treated.

Stop Hair Loss with Food

Vitamin/mineral deficiency, bad eating habits, and being a picky eater does a lot of damage to your hair, body and overall appearance. Eating too less is equally bad as eating too much. When you don’t provide your body with essential minerals, it affects the nervous system, organs and eventually your hair. We recommend

  • Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. More green leafy ones will provide zinc and iron for cleaner blood and better circulation.
  • Proteins, this includes milk, beef, chicken, fish and eggs. Protein is necessary for new cell synthesis and repair. While fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and oils that are good for scalp and hair health.
  • Good amount of carbohydrates and fats because cells need energy to work.

Maintain and Monitor your health Stats

Problems like thyroid hyper/hypo activity, infections and diseases should not be ignored. Stress, fatigue and depression can also make your hair fall out. To prevent this from happening you can

  • Do stress management, seek therapy and help, we all have tough phases. The best thing you can do for your mental and physical help is talk to an expert.
  • Get proper sleep, 8 hours on weekday and 10 hours on weekends. When you rest, your body repairs itself. A lot of cellular activity does not happen when you are awake.
  • Identify infections and seek medical treatment immediately.
  • See a doctor for your thyroid problems.

Take Proper Care

Hair loss and thinning can also be caused by what we do to our hair. Improper hygiene, less bathing, over styling and exposure to chemicals. All this causes hair to become weak and brittle, then eventually fall out.

Here is what you need to do and not do

Don’t pull your hair habitually or tie them back too hard. This weakens the roots and their grip.

  • Brush softly and don’t use a heat comb.
  • Put that straightening or curling iron away, your hair will burn and look frizzy.
  • Avoid chemical bonding treatments to make hair straight, curly and wavy hair are beautiful in their own way.
  • No dyes either, they are bad for the scalp too.
  •  Use coconut/olive/almond oil and massage it thoroughly in your hair. This is good for blood circulation and it topically provides vitamins and minerals.

See a Doctor!

In case of severe emotional or physical trauma like pregnancies, child birth, stress, depression, eating disorders, see a doctor. There are cases where you many not be able to do much, and at times hair does come back.  However, situations like sudden hair fall, infections and other relevant cases that make you loose hair should be consulted with your doctor.

Pay attention to your health and any abnormal signs that may occur. Seeking immediate medical treatment is the best way to prevent them from spreading or getting worse.
